A nasty tropical cyclone has formed in the Caribbean Sea and is now officially known as Hurricane Helen. The storm is forecast to affect several southern states along the Gulf Coast. According to The Weather Channel, Helen's path curves around Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. The storm formed in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to impact Cancun, Mexico before hooking around the Gulf and slamming through the west coast of Florida. According to the outlet's map, the hurricane will mostly hit Tampa, then head north toward Charleston, South Carolina, beginning Thursday, September 26.

Who will be affected by Hurricane Helen?
Storm surge is expected to damage Tampa Bay, Florida and other areas surrounding that area of the state. The storm is also expected to affect the Gulf Coast and anywhere in the Southeast region of the United States.
The National Hurricane Center indicated that "a tropical depression or storm may develop over the next few days." When it is fully developed in the Caribbean Sea, the storm will officially be named Hurricane Helen.
"Regardless of development, this system is expected to produce heavy rainfall over parts of Central America over the next few days," the NHC said in its advisory statement.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also issued a statement regarding the impending storm. Regarding X (In an earlier tweet, the politician wrote, "We are tracking possible Tropical Cyclone #9, which could strengthen this week as the system moves into the Gulf of Mexico. I have issued Executive Order 24-208, declaring a state of 41 counties in Florida "We will continue to monitor the storm's path and keep Floridians updated."
The governor encouraged Florida residents to "make an emergency plan, know your evacuation zone and be as prepared as possible for the storm."
